Hello again friends! Is it just me, or did March fly by? I must have been so caught up in all the incredible wine events this city has to offer that I got behind on my posts. My apologies.
However, what great blog fodder! Last week I attended the Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival - the largest festival of its kind in North America. Around 180 wineries participated this year, and poured over 800 different varietals of the good stuff. The theme region was BC so many of those wineries are in our own backyard. Lucky us!
If that wasn't great enough, the entire Festival had a very 'green' feel to it. Not only were there more recycling bins than garbage cans, but many of the seminars and events had an enviro-focus. Take the Symposium for example. It was a seminar on "green wine marketing" where the panel engaged industry leaders, pundits and researchers in a discussion about environmentally friendly wines. Some of the tough questions that were tackled - How do wineries verify their claims of being biodynamic, organic and good for the planet? What is involved in the certification process of an organic winery and are the regulations consistent throughout all agricultural areas of the globe? How aware are consumers and how easy is it to identify and find environmentally friendly wines? An interesting and important discussion to say the least.
It seems that the whole world is eager to learn more about green wine, and we at Painted Turtle couldn't be more pleased.
See you at Playhouse 2010!
Good Afternoon everyone,
I saw the article about going green and being more environmentally friendly. I think it is great that so many people are waking up to the fact that the planet is in trouble and that we need to act now in order to help out. I think with global warming creeping up on us, I think it is very important that we become more aware of trying to lower our carbon emissions, and try and do right by the planet. I think we can all do our little bit extra to try and help! At home I always shut the computer down rather than putting it to sleep, and always turn off electrics rather than leave them on stand by. These tips may seem small, but if everyone pulled together then I think we could really make a difference to the world. Another hint I have is that I now use e-Cards rather than buying paper cards. Not only are you saving money if you choose a free site, but more importantly, you are helping the environment by saving paper, and therefore less trees need to be chopped down! I have done my research and finally found the best free Environmentally Friendly e-Card site. It is really easy to use, which is great if like me you are not very good with computers! I really like this particular site as there is just so much choice. I know e-Cards are not for everyone but think of the environment it really is a great way to help out and do your bit! Kind Regards, Nic
